3 Tips for Picking the Best Bridesmaids and Groomsmen

Reprinted from Munaluchi Bridal

Once the dust settles after the engagement most brides immediately go into planning mode. While finding a dress and venue is usually on the list of priorities, deciding who will be in your wedding party is a very important decision that can make or break the overall wedding experience. We have heard all the horror stories about jealous bridesmaids and deadbeat groomsmen. My fiancé and I were determined not to have this happen to us and we have picked an excellent wedding party. Here are 3 tips I suggest for picking the best Bridesmaids and Groomsmen.

Make no decisions without input from the groom

Yes ladies, you should speak to your fiancé and jointly discuss who will be in the wedding. Too many times, the bride chooses her people and the groom chooses his people without any collaboration. This is a mistake in my view. You should discuss together what your ideal bridesmaid and groomsman should look like and expectations for both. The goal here is to be on the same page so you can choose the best individuals that can support both of you during the process.

Choose people you can depend on…For Real

Bridesmaids and Groomsmen should not be in the wedding just to stand around and look good for the pictures. The roles require people you can depend on during any situation good or bad that may arise during this process. They are your support team. For every individual you are considering to ask to be in your wedding, make sure they are honest and responsible people. If you wouldn’t trust them watching your kids, then you shouldn’t ask them to be in your wedding. (An honest assessment my fiancé and I used when picking the wedding party. Keeping it real ya’ll.) They should not create additional stress to your special day but rather help you feel assured that all is well.

You can’t please everybody

Once you understand that you can’t please everyone, a huge weight will be lifted off of your shoulders. At the end of the day, this is your wedding and you must do what is best for you and your fiancé. Do not listen to family and friends who think they are wedding planners that try to tell you who you need to put in your wedding. If you do not want that cousin with the stank attitude in your wedding then you do not have to put her in. There is also no need to have 15 bridesmaids (unless you really want all of those people) just for the sake of pleasing all of your friends. Unfortunately everyone may not be able to be a bridesmaid, and that’s okay. If they are your real friends, they will just be honored to have been invited to the event and be present during this important day in your life.
